Learn How to Make a Chinese Toast
Whether youââ¬â¢re ringing in Chinese New Year with a bottle of champagne, making a toast at a wedding, or casually drinking ç⢠½Ã©â¦â (bà ¡ijiÃâ, a popular type of Chinese alcohol) with your friends, knowing a few Chinese toasts to say will always liven the mood. Here is a beginners guide to short Chinese toasts and other Chinese drinking culture tips. What to Say ä ¹ ¾Ã¦ ¯Ã (Gà nbÃâi), literally translating into dry your cup, essentially means cheers. This phrase can either beà a very casual toast or sometimes this toast is an indication for each person to empty the glass in one gulp. If it is the latter case, this only applies to men ââ¬â¹during the first round of drinks at the beginning of the night, and women are only expected to take a sip. éš ¨Ã¦â à (Suà yà ¬) literally translates to at random or arbitrarily. But with regards to giving a toast, it also means cheers. This toast indicates you want each person to drink as he or she wishes. è ¬Ã¥ £ ½Ã§â ¡Ã§â"â à (Wà n shà ²u wà º jià ng) is a toast used to wish for longevity and health. What to Do Now that you know what to say, how do you actually give a toast? When giving a toast in Chinese, raise your glass as you give the toast. Depending on where you are, your fellow drinkers will either raise their glasses and then drink, clink glasses and then drink, or tap the bottom of the glasses against the table and then drink. If you are giving a toast with a table full of people, it is not expected that anyone clink glasses. But there will be times when you find yourself clinking glasses with an individual. If that person is your superior, it is customary that you touch the rim of your glass below the rim of their glass. To exaggerate that you acknowledge this persons higher status, touch the rim of your glass to the bottom of their glass. This custom is especially important when it comes to business meetings. Who Makes the Toast? The host of the party or meeting will be the first to make the toast. It is considered rude if anyone besides the host makes the first toast. The host will also give the last toast to indicate that the event is coming to an end.à Now that you know how to give a Chinese toast, drink up and enjoy socializing!

Statistics and Business Research Efficiency Methods
Question: Discuss about the Statistics and Business Research Efficiency Methods. Answer: Introduction: Now a days internet is the most influential medium of advertising in the new world. The internet is the fastest growing medium with millions of users. So it will be an advertiser's dream to expand their business throughout the web. It requires a new strategy and thinking. So it needs geographical coverage with different test and preference. It includes many kinds of marketing such as email marketing, social media marketing, mobile advertisement, etc. So it needs a relation between both publishers and an advertiser. Lees cost effectiveness give this business a significant scope than any offline adds. As different users have a different operating system and different web browser so any advertising company should take care of that online ads may appear at various users directly, and it should be very user-friendly. Aim of the Research The main aims of choosing this project is to make online advertising in such a way that consumer dont get bored or irritated with online ads and also to attract them in a different way. Theory, assumptions, background, literature: Marketing is more than just distributing from the manufacture to the final customers. The online marketing is mainly depends on consumers demands to pick and choose in the communication with the several brands through the Internet (Sheehan, 2010). The internet advertising companies have an aspiration to assess and identify the competence of their campaigns to the boundary. Likewise, the clients are very eager to be familiar with that how efficient the campaign is as well as what kind of returns with profits they can imagine. There is often a difference between the technical implementation and the economic understanding of business. The lack of understanding of different directions may result in software that has not been fully worked out (Drew, 2002). So to achieve a better place online advertising one must take care of customer survey and customers feedback. An Online Advertisement management program that was developed to handle online advertisement should be very familiar with every operating system and every software platforms. Variable and hypotheses: The leading four theories upon which the online advertising based is appearance of ads, simplification, cost effectiveness and software platform. So in programming concept designing and appearance of ads are the primary variable. And customer nature and behaviour is the independent variable. Customer behaviour can be of three types. Some costumes always look for brands in less cost. So you have to take care of the fact that your selling or giving good products add and also giving customer first trial pack or less cost for the first time (Duffy, 2007). Thus they will be connected with you. And some of the customers are very busy in their life, so they order through online ads and always found more friendly adds thus they dont need to spend so much time with that. So your software must be very simpler and user-friendly. And some of the customers don't open adds for privacy problem and security problem. So you have to assure your customer that all their login or search is secure. So you have to mention everything in your privacy criteria clearly (Hanafizadeh, Behboudi, Hasanabad, 2014). So according to hypotheses if we go with the first choice then we have to reduce our products cost which is not possible for every product. And if we go with the second option then we have to keep our brands unchanged or have to improve. But with that previous kind of people will be less attracted. So we have to maintain both brand reputations and less cost effectiveness. Operational definition and measurements: Advertising represents influential as well as probable selling message to the accurate projection for product services which have the lowest probable cost. Advertising is a very artistic way of communicating with the customers. The main characteristics one advertisement should have to get on their objectives are excellent communication skills and excellent convincing power. An advertising company should care of some objectives when it is conducted for advertising that is to identify and narrow down targeted audience from the general audience. To undertake the goal of getting high sales conversions and revenue a company should take care of that their act going to the right track and it should be more attractive than any other companies top (Rosner, Halcrow, Levins, 2001). The company should use advertising to encourage trail users of new products. To grow the sales and profit, a company should follow some tricky rules as to give off on some products and incentives to first time buyer s. The company must deliver the original product at stated price according to their promises. Research objectives: There are mainly three objectives that we have to look at. Enhancing client engagement and developing relationships with prospects. To identify and narrow down targeted audience from general audience is also the primary objective. Continuity means one should concerned aboutkeeping the existing customers to stick on to the product. That means keep bringing new in products and advertisement to keep the existing customer. Another objective is how u will attract your customer with brand switch. It means to convincing customers to switch their products in competition with other company. Research questions: Will the targeted audience notice the ad? Within a lot of fake advertisement its very hard to attract the consumer, but if consumer gets a clear picture of your ad then it is possible to attract targeted people. What potential changes can be made to improve the impact of the ad? Increasingly, many companies test their ads before they are released to the public to prevent unexpected reactions and ensure their message isclearly communicated. Will the ad have an effect on purchase limit? Its also tough to get an effect on purchase limit. People have behaviour to attract in such like ad that shows 10% off 20% off. So to increase that one has to look upon that. Research design and methodology: To create a significant place in online marketing industry one should take care of some rules and regulations (Methodology, 2007). That are the type of advertisement and web pages where it will appear and hope it will integrate with content and how fine it coordinated with advertisers target audience. Traditional media advertising is very inefficient advertising technique than online advertising. So the web should permit the advertisers for gathering complete information on who saw an ad as well as when and in what background also how many times by which one company can get to know that which products add are more popular (Dahln Edenius, 2007). Creative design of the home page is critical to attracting any of the customers at her first glance within some time the users should get the thought regarding the website as well as where to go inside it. For that to spread your ads all over you, have to use most of the language to serve your ads, to communicate will different languages peop le. This technique was introduced at 1994. Then it was not so popular. But with the increasing day it became much popular. The growth of online advertisement in 2011 gets doubled than 2009. So with the upcoming days appurtenance of advertisement should be more attractive to attractive people. Instrumentation/sampling: To create a well-reputed advertising business one should take care of so many criteria. First one needs a good web designer to design an attractive and motivated web page (Buckland, 2004). It also matters that how fast does the site the download so you should not make your software program more complex and time effective. You also take care of the graphics used in creating the web page. Thus it can appear quickly. The site must be easily navigable. The domain name also matters, to use a sort attractive domain name is a good approach to online advertising. It also matters to look upon that what at the publicity and advertising performance. It is making passage to the site (Instrumentation, 2010). If many of parameters are measured while choosing the websites for online advertising, then the blow of that advertising will be missing. To choose right social media and websites according to theirs popularities is also mattered that how traditional your ads will be, and the most important t hings are that communication problems should be isolated. And a media plan should be designed. Data analysis: Nowadays it is the biggest problem that customers are annoyed with thousands of pop-up windows fake ads (Sarantakos, 2007). So at first we have to change our plan to serve the advertisement. So we have to choose those websites that have will reputations and make a deal with few no of an advertising company. And one should increase the involvement of customer in defining brand characteristics. The most important thing in digital advertising is that cost effectiveness. It depends on three relations that are purchase-convictions, preference-liking, and knowledge-awareness. Purchase depends on conversion and conversion rate. Conviction depends on frequency on a search engine or online shops. Preference depends on hits on the web of specific brands ("Digital advertising", 2010). Liking depends on click through rate knowledge interactive advertising, hyperlink. According to the growth of the internet in 2000's, the online advertising also increases. According to survey for the yr 2012, Jup iter Research forecasted $34.5 billion in online advertising expenditure. According to information beginning of 2011 online advertise revenues rose 23.2% to make a record US$14.9 billion the rate of expansion is almost double through the growth of the year 2009. So in upcoming days with the help of growth of internet, digital advertising will also increase. But the competition will be high (Hine, 2013). So if you are not compromising with the old ideas you are going to be ruined by other upcoming companies. For that you have to make all ads attractive, friendly with all system software, with all browsers, you need a big coverage, cost efficiency, good software engineer, and good web designer, comfortable with a customer with its feedback system. And survey must be required to keep the popularity. All the above data are collected from various books from the library and internet and also through my survey. Conclusion Is promoting advertisement on the internet an appropriate option? I give concern at this question regarding efficiency, profitability as well as marketing processes. Now a days internet advertising is the key of adverting success with the growth of the internet. It is an easy method to distribute information, an advance method of treating customers, an immediate and direct promoting of business, and reduced cost in performing the tasks. The only negative aspect is that customers fear over internet the fear that ordering through an online advertisement will get lost in fear of cyberspace. It is traditional, that with new technology people scared, but it does not take long to adjust. But it also has a sign that generation young people is more active and is much more interested in online shopping through adds after verifying. Though you try your best, you will not let all peoples look upon your ads until you get the reputation. So you have to carry your reputation and regularity with your tricky attractive ads. Finding Salvation Essays - Giovannis Room, Hella,
Finding Salvation Finding Salvation What is love? This question has probably been asked or thought about since the beginning of time. The definition of love cannot be defined as something concrete but something that is infinite. It is something that can evolve to everyones personality and something that everyone can choose to create for him or her. The idea of love can change as the seasons change throughout the year. But for some, finding love is not an easy path and the search for love can become a fa?ade to cover their true identity. In Giovannis Room by James Baldwin, the main character seems to be confused about his life and more importantly about love. He not only struggles to find his sexuality but he uses the notion of love to fill the void in his life at any given time. David becomes so enveloped by his desires, wants, dreams, and idea of manhood that he cannot truly find what love means to him. As the story of Davids trek to Europe unfolds, there is an obvious sense of confusion and understanding all in one. He starts off right away talking about how he never loved Hella. He states, I thought she would be fun to have fun with. That was how it began, that was all it meant to me I am not sure now, in spite of everything, that it ever really meant more than that to me (p.4). All throughout the novel, David is confused about Hella. Yet, he still asks her to marry him and strings her along through his sexuality confusion because he believes that she can make him happy. He constantly refers back to a life that he wants to lead, but a life with a nice home, a wife, and some children. What he fails to question is why he believes those are his true dreams. Even as he leaves for Europe he talks about his father and says, And we got on quite well, really, for the vision I gave my father of my life was exactly the vision in which I myself most desperately needed to believe (p.20). What is most interesting as his story goes on is how David is so capable of convincing Hella and Giovanni that he truly loved both of them. He kept both of them in his life but never truly knew what he wanted. In his mind, he wanted the perfect American family to bring home to his father yet he could never resist the desire for men that he held within. Always in the back of his mind, David knew what Europe was going to be for him. He knew it wasnt going to be a search for a home but a search for his sexuality. How he uses his two lovers is very intriguing because his love for both of them was truly only a sense of security. Davis states about Giovanni, Sometimes I thought, but this is your life. Stop fighting it. Stop fighting. Or I thought, but I am happy. And he loves me. I am safe. SometimesI thought, I will never let him touch me again (p.88). From Hella to Giovanni his confusion never stops because with Hella his dreams of a life could come true but with Giovanni his deep desire no longer is hidden. As Davids moods swing back and forth his love for each Hella and Giovanni conveniently change. When Hella leaves to go to Spain, David begins a wonderful relationship with Giovanni yet as her return comes closer he begins to question his professed love. He states, Yet is was trueI wanted children. I wanted to be inside again, with the light and safety, with my manhood unquestioned, watching my woman put my children to bedI could make it real. It only demanded a short hard strength for me to become myself again (p.103). His notion of safety changes and so does his love. Wherever he feels that safety can be found he believes that he has found love yet in reality that his love is only a mask for the fear of the unknown. David seems to be seeking for something to make him feel safe yet that web of safety

Movie Romero Essays - Scar Romero, English-language Films
Movie Romero Essays - Scar Romero, English-language Films Movie Romero In the movie Romero, Archbishop Romero changes very much in his understanding of love and in his understanding of true conscience. At first Romero is just a priest who isnt really concerned about the poor and how they are being oppressed, but when Romero is chosen to be the new Archbishop his friend, who is assassinated, I think has a slight impact on him. But I think when his friend is assassinated is when he really starts to realize what is happening to the country of El Salvador and how the government doesnt want anyone to speak out about this. So, now Romero is starting to action against the government and tries to speak out against them. Here we see Archbishop Romeros true conscience and love grow for the people around him because we see him taking more action against the government. I think that Archbishop Romero defines love as helping others who are in need and others who need his help whatever it may be. We see Romero do this when he starts to lead the revolt in trying to te ll the El Salvadoran Government to stop oppressing the poor and treat everyone as human beings. I think Romero has to make a very big decision considering, the gorillas were sending out flyers that said Be a Patriot, Kill a Priest. The decision that Romero had to make was whether or not to help the poor or just be a puppet for the cardinals that selected him to be a puppet in the beginning. I think the thing that made Romero choose to help out the poor was the love he had for them. I also believe that it was the right (moral) thing to do whether he would have done what he did or not. It wasnt right for the rich to richer and the poor to just keep getting poorer. Romero made a really important decision when he decided to help out the poor because he now became an enemy against the government. Romero grew immensely throughout the entire movie, his love for the people and his conscience (soul, ego) grew as well. Our notes tell us that love requires work it is not just a feeling you have. Romero did a lot work to find his love; he also made a lot of sacrifices. Some of the sacrifices that Romero made were, going into the church when it was taken over by the military Romero still went in knowing that he may be killed, but I think the biggest sacrifice that Romero gave his people was that he gave up his life so that maybe someday they could be free. This resembles Jesus very much, because Jesus gave up his life so that all of our sins would be taken away. Romero is a very brave man for doing this, I dont know many people who would give their lives up so others could be free this is a very non-selfish act. In my opinion there should be more people like this on the earth because there are so many problems that the world has to deal with in this day of age. I think that Oscar Anglo Romero y Glades was a great man for dieing for something that he truly believed in. Romero may have hesitated for a while on what to do, but in the long run what he did to help out the country of El Salvador was a major impact for the government to change. I wish there were more people like Romero in the world today, because there are not a lot of people that would still die for what they believe in like he did. I agree with all of Romeros decisions except one, the one I do not agree with is, how he waited so long to do anything about the countries condition. I hope the people who oppressed the poor and were killing the priests get what they deserve on their judgment day, because what they were doing is totally wrong according to moral standards. In my opinion, the idea of liberation theology is not right. I believe that God, treats every person the same, unless like in

Final - Essay Example classical and human relation approaches towards management. The production of goods or varying products was undertaken solely by workers before the industrial revolution. It means that it was the task of the worker to bring different pieces and parts of a product himself without the aid of machinery. However, with the passage of time, machines took over some of the tasks of the workers. Herein, it should be noted that the workers were still responsible for most of the tasks but the approach towards production changed to a great extent. Industrial revolution broke down the production process of a good in various steps. The advancement of technological infrastructure resulted in large groups working together to produce increased amounts of goods in a very short span of time (Lumley & Wilkinson, 2013). Throughout the process of development of production of goods, the nature of work and the approaches to get the work done also changed drastically. Researchers and management theorists also undertook a number of experiments to find out the impact that the change in working conditions had on the working conditions of the employees as well as their motivation towards getting the work done. It was this era when a boom within the exploration of management theories and paradigms was observed. The major purpose of the management theory was to suggest or recommend business giants to strategically make their employees work for the interests of stakeholders. It involved the manner in which they organized the employees and their tasks. At this point, two distinctive approaches of management were found out that were later termed as classical management theories and human relation theories. Before critically evaluating the purpose of the two different approaches of management, a light will be sh ed on the term management theory (Gallagher, 2012). As discussed above, organizations need a road map or a guiding model when it comes to managing the

Turkey and the European Union Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Turkey and the European Union - Essay Example As a prerequisite for joining the union, a country should satisfy a basic condition of being able to prove that it is democratically stable and able to address the issues of humanitarian and international concerns. However, the public and media circles have been full of accusations labeled against turkey mostly because it is a predominantly Muslim nation. Most of the European Union nations have argued that the country is of an incompatible value system having been through a different timeline in its historical and religious history. As a result, the arguments against the nationââ¬â¢s membership to the EU have been based on a religious cum cultural compatibility with other states in the union. In other words, by being a country that has faced a lot of historical influence through Islamic dominance in its political and social structure, the opposing voices for the countryââ¬â¢s inclusion in the EU state that this has worked against the country. The attachment of Islamic faith wit h terrorism has also been a factor in the determination of the countryââ¬â¢s EU status at least according to some public observers. The fear of Islam among other faiths in the region has been high in the aftermath of terror attacks in major European cities; all connected to individuals or groups of Islamic background. It then follows that most people have wanted to associate the integration of the country into the union to increased terrorism in the region. Apart from the countryââ¬â¢s religious heritage, its size has been a factor with many arguing that the country population which nears that of Germany; may be a hindrance to the regionââ¬â¢s economic development. Other issues raised have attachment to the countryââ¬â¢s poverty index, largely rural population and conflict prone boarders. Turkey has myriad of problems just like other European Union countries. Some of the problems are a result of the coup attempt in Cyprus. Muftuler and Guney (282) indicate some of the re asons why this conflict has a bearing on the determination of Turkey as a member of the EU. The origin of this conflict starts with the long followed conflict in Cyprus, which stems from the Greek and Turkish Cypriots living in the country. The country has been in the middle of the conflict due to its push to defend their counterparts who are settled in Cyprus. One factor that complicates this matter is that Greece is already a member of the EU yet it has been conflicting with the country concerning Cyprus. Turkeyââ¬â¢s involvement in the conflict was as a result of the marginalization of the Turkish Cypriots even after the United Kingdom, Greece and the country signed a treaty of guarantee to Cyprus. This issue also highlights the problem of immigration. Migration has historically been attached to the enhancement of multiculturalism in regions such as Europe. However, Huysmans (752) highlights that a social realignment of this issue has resulted in ââ¬Ësecuritization of migra tion.ââ¬â¢ Simply put, migration has been attached mostly to security issues rather than on the potential of interactions of the immigrants that can result into economic and social development. Most western nations have always majored on security and used this as a reason for restricting movement against the foundations of freedoms of association and movement.

Team Work Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Team Work - Research Paper Example Most of the businesses prefer teamwork skills among an individual while evaluating him/her for the employment purpose. All companies realize that teamwork is highly essential as either the products to be manufactured are very complex and require teamwork efforts for the production purpose or a good product will be manufactured when a teamwork approach would be adapted for the entire manufacturing process. Thus, it becomes important to perform as a team while working in an organization. In teamwork, the members perform their function to meet the personal as well as the group objectives and goals. The members working in a group feel a sense of authorization and ownership while performing their functions within a group, as these members are committed towards the common goals and objectives that have been set by the group. The team members collaborate with each other and use their experiences and talents in an effective manner to improve the overall performance of the entire group. These members have the foundation of their success built on the trust towards the other members in the team where all the members in the team are encouraged to express their views, opinions, queries freely. The most advantageous part in a team work is that all the members have equal opportunity to participate in the decision making process within the organization, Moreover, there remains a level of understanding among all the members where they realize that the ultimate decision should be taken by the leader if the team as a whole cannot reach to any consensus agreement. Characteristics or features of an effective team 1. The team should have transparent goal The team goals must possess a specific performance objective, which would be expressed in a concise manner, so that it is clear to every member when the objective have been met. 2. The team should have result driven structure The team must operate and perform its functions in such manner that it produces results for the organization . If a team is allowed to develop the structure, then it provides best results. 3. The team should possess competent team members The team members chosen for participating in the group must have the potentiality of being competent enough. The members must have the ability to tackle with the level of knowledge. 4. The team should always have unified commitment All the team members must direct their efforts and to a common goal, where the individual efforts would have the ability to meet the unified commitment. The prime advantage of teamwork is the ability to combine the talents and skills. A team gets advantageous from a broad array of talent and skills, which is not possible to be possessed by an individual employee. Collaboration and leadership play important role in increasing the efficiency of the team work. It is the responsibility of a good leader to handle the team with such efficacy that it increases the performance of the entire team. At the same time, collaboration between the team members is necessary in order to improve the overall team work. The next part of the project would discuss about the importance of collaboration and leadership in teamwork. Team work and Collaboration Collaboration is one of the most important components of any team. It does not matter whether the team is big or small but collaboration is necessary in every

Acid Rain Causes, History, and Effects
Acid Rain Causes, History, and Effects Crystal Mullen Acid rain is a form of rain that consists of droplets of that are abnormally acidic due to the pollution in the air particularly the extreme amounts of nitrogen and sulfur released by cars and industrial factories (Briney, 2014). While it is usually in the form of water droplets, acid rain can also occur in form of fog, snow, or even increments of dry materials that may settle within the environment (National Geographic, 2014). Acidic deposition, or acid rain as it is more commonly known, manifests either wet or dry. Wet deposition is precipitation in any form that takes acids from the air and distributes them onto the Earthââ¬â¢s surface. Dry deposition, on the other hand, are polluting gases and particles that attaches to ground through smoke, dust and a lack of rain. Although the dry form is a dangerous form of deposition, wet deposition is actually more dangerous because the rain eventually washes pollutants into lakes, streams, and rivers (Briney, 2014). Furthermore, natural causes such as erupting volcanoes and rotting vegetation can release chemicals that can create acid rain. However, acid rain primarily falls due to human activities such as coal-burning power plants (National Geographic, 2014). The electric and coal burning based gases that form acid rain were first introduced in large amounts into the atmosphere during the Industrial Revolution, In 1852, Robert Angus Smith, a Scottish chemist was the first to discover the relationship between the atmospheric pollution in Manchester, England and the corresponding acid rain (Briney, 2014). Although acid deposition was discovered in the mid-1800s, this discovery did not begin to be common knowledge in the general public until the 1960s. In 1972, the term ââ¬Å"acid rainâ⬠was coined. The general publicââ¬â¢s attention toward acid deposition increased in the 1970s when reports published by the New York Times revealed problems occurring in New Hampshireââ¬â¢s Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (Briney, 2014). There are quite a few negative ecological effects to acid deposition. One of the more prominent effects is its impact on streams, lakes, wetlands, and other water-based environments. This is because acid deposition, acidifies the waters so that the water would absorb aluminum and then blend in with the soil found around streams and lakes. This toxic combination makes poison the aquatic animals such as clams, fish, and crayfish, clams (National Geographic, 2014). As this acid based liquid flows into streams, rivers and oceans, it does become diluted. However, over time, acids will accrue and then lowers the overall pH of the body. Furthermore, acid deposition causes clay-based soils to release magnesium and aluminum which, in some areas, further lowers the pH. The drop in pH can indeed be significant because if the lakeââ¬â¢s pH drops below 4.8, the plants and animals surrounding that body of water could die. The estimated 50,000 lakes that are in the United States as well as Canada are at risk because they have a below normal pH (about 5.3 for water). Sadly, the pH found in several hundred of these lakes are too low to support any plant or animal water-based life (Briney, 2014). Although some species can withstand the effects of acid deposition, our interconnected ecosystem means that even non-aquatic animals, such as birds are affected by acid deposition (Briney, 2014). In addition to streams, rivers, and oceans, acid rain can substantially impact forest regions. As the acid rain falls on the trees, the trees are then prone to losing their leaves, suffering bark damage, and stymied growth. When these parts of the trees are damaged, it makes these trees prone to disease as well as vulnerable to insect infestation and extreme weather. Furthermore, when acid falls on a forestââ¬â¢s soil, it kills microorganisms in the soil, disrupts soil nutrients, and possibly even cause calcium deficiency. Finally, trees that are at high altitudes are vulnerable to damage caused by acid-based clouds because the acidic moisture in the clouds blankets these trees (Briney, 2014). Although acid rain damage to forests is seen all over the world, the cases of acid rain damaged trees that shows most damage are found in Eastern Europe. In Poland and Germany, about half of their forests are damaged. Switzerland also has at least 30% acid rain damage in their forests (Briney, 2014). Acid deposition has even impacted art and architecture because of the acidââ¬â¢s ability to corrode certain types of materials. As acid rain falls on buildings (particularly buildings constructed with limestone) the acid reacts with minerals found in the stones and sometimes causes the building to wash away and disintegrate. Furthermore, acid rain can corrode cars, modern buildings, airplanes, railroad tracks, steel bridges, and even pipes below and above the ground (Briney, 2014). Thankfully there are quite a few steps taken today by various government agencies to reduce nitrogen and sulfur emissions. Many governments now actually require energy producers to clean their smoke stacks by using scrubbers that can trap the pollutants before they are released in the air. Furthermore governments are also mandating catalytic converters to be installed in cars to lower their emissions. Finally, though certainly not exhaustively, alternative energy sources, such as solar plants and windmills are gaining more prominence so government funding is being administered for the restoration of ecosystems that have suffered acid rain damage worldwide (Briney, 2014). This is great news for our environment. Iââ¬â¢m sure that more funding, as well as private sector support will continue to work to restore the ecosystem from the damage caused by acid rain. Conclusion As far as I know, I have never personally suffered adverse effects due to acid deposition. Unlike Kimberly from Diffââ¬â¢rent Strokes, I never had green hair from washing with rain water. However, I wouldnââ¬â¢t want to wait until my hair ââ¬â or skin was green, before taking action to improve our environmentââ¬â¢s air quality. Furthermore maintaining higher levels of air quality ensures Iââ¬â¢m not vulnerable to the dry form of acid rain and have to battle asthma or other breathing issues. Finally, Iââ¬â¢m thankful that we are now fighting acid deposition because protecting air quality, which in turn protects water quality, means my six-year-old nephew will have a greater chance of living a long and healthy life without asthma, indigestion due to tainted water or green hair. I hope the measures to reduce acid rain continue. References Briney, A. (2014). Acid Rain The Causes, History, and Effects of Acid Rain. Good and Evil in Goethes Faust :: Faust Essays
Good and Evil in Faust In Faust Goethe shows many of his opinions about good, evil, and religion. Goethe uses characters like The Lord and Gretchen in the early part of the play to set examples of goodness. Goethe uses characters like Mephistopheles to stand for evil. Throughout the play Goethe also uses examples of the church to show how he feels the church works. The concept of good for Goethe is that everyone has the ability to be good and that errors in judgment are what make people bad but if a person keeps striving these mistakes will bring them closer to righteousness. As long as a person continues to keep moving and doing things they will most likely achieve righteousness. This is shown in the bet between Faust and Mephistopheles. Faust says that if at any time he says, "Linger a while! Thou art so fair!" that will be when Faust dies and serves Mephistopheles. This shows that if Faust were to stop wanting to do anything it would be a horrible sin. The Lord which many perceive to stand for God stands for the perfection that Faust is trying to accomplish with his life. Gretchen in the early part of the play stands for perfection because she is inexperienced and knows nothing else until Faust starts to seduce her. The concept of bad for Goethe can be seen most in the character of Mephistopheles. Mephistopheles is believed to stand for the devil. When he first introduces himself he describes himself as "a part of that Power which always wills evil, always procures good.....the Spirit which always denies." Mephistopheles actions such as talking Faust into taking advantage of Gretchen and then telling him to leave her are seen as evil actions. The fact that Mephistopheles spends time with witches which most people see as evil shows that he is also evil. Goethe believes that all people sin sometimes and God forgives us. This is shown when Gretchen is in prison and after all the sin she has done a voice from heaven grants her salvation. Even though she did sin, most of her sin was because of inexperience and she was not purposely sinning. Goethe feels that the church and religion are both useless. When Faust leaves Gretchen the first jewels, her mother takes them to the church. The church takes them saying that they are trying to help, but this can be seen as the church just trying to get money out of them.
